My father was a building contractor and home builder when I was growing up in Plainview, Texas. I used to tag along with him to jobs whenever he would let me. The smell of sawdust still brings back wonderful memories of the smell of a new house going up, and the way Dad smelled when he came home every night. Watching Dad put his heart and soul into building homes for people, I realized that a home is where the heart is, because it’s where loved ones gather. People were always so happy to move their families into the new homes that my father and his construction crew spent months building for them, and I could see that even as a child and appreciate the important job my dad had. It inspired in me to a desire to be a part of that happiness I saw in those people, to make a contribution, like my Dad, to that process of helping to make a house into a home. I love what I do for a living! I’m blessed beyond measure to be happy to go to work every day, because it doesn’t feel like “work”. It feels more like an investment, an investment in people, and their lives, and their happiness.
